Photographs with white borders – A part of the artistic expression
Some pictures in the shop feature a white border around the image. The border is an intentional part of the visual expression, giving the subject space to breathe while enhancing the composition and adding a gallery-like feel.
These works are printed on exclusive Hahnemühle art paper and come unframed, allowing you to select a framing style that suits your taste. The border makes professional framing easier and creates an elegant transition between the image and the frame.
When you choose a photograph with a border, you select a piece curated to live in your space – with balance, depth, and calm.

The story behind Arctic Winter Sarnesfjorden II
Sarnesfjorden is a remote bay in Nordkapp, Finnmark, where the elements completely dominate the landscape. On this winter day, a darkening sky signaled an impending storm over the water. Meanwhile, the crashing waves against the rugged coastline created a powerful atmosphere of wild, untamed beauty.
Ultimately, capturing these cultural landscapes through fine-art photography is a way to honor and preserve this fragile heritage. By freezing a moment in time—where a snow-covered lavvo stands small against a darkening storm—we are reminded of the resilience, spirit, and timeless history embedded in the northern soil.
This piece belongs to a dedicated series of northern winter landscapes. Ultimately, to preserve the deep contrasts and dramatic details, I print this artwork exclusively on premium, acid-free Hahnemühle fine-art paper. This museum-quality paper guarantees exceptional longevity and a stunning matte finish. You can explore the historic background of this traditional manufacturer directly on Hahnemühle FineArt, ensuring your limited-edition print remains a striking focal point in modern homes.
The heritage of the Sámi Lavvo and coastal culture in Finnmark
The Arctic coastline of Finnmark is a landscape shaped by powerful elements, where the vast tundra meets the freezing waters of the Barents Sea. For generations, this rugged environment has been the home of the Sea Sámi people, a culture deeply intertwined with both the sea and the land. While fishing provided vital sustenance from the deep fjords, reindeer husbandry and seasonal migrations defined the pulse of life along these northern shores.
Historically, the most iconic symbol of this nomadic endurance is the traditional Sámi lavvo. Far more than just a temporary tent, the lavvo represents a masterclass in indigenous engineering, uniquely designed to withstand the unpredictable Arctic weather. Its conical shape allows fierce winds to glide effortlessly over the structure. In addition, the sturdy wooden poles, traditionally gathered from resilient Arctic birch, provide a stable frame against heavy winter snowfalls.
At the heart of the lavvo, a central hearth always provided warmth, light, and a gathering place for storytelling, passing down ancestral wisdom through generations. Consequently, the structure served as a sanctuary of comfort and community in the middle of the untamed wilderness.
Meanwhile, along the shores of remote bays like Sarnesfjorden in Nordkapp, this nomadic heritage met the coastal lifestyle. Here, rustic red sea shacks and traditional lavvos often shared the same coastline. This coexistence beautifully illustrates how the Sámi people adapted their lives. Consequently, they could harvest resources from both the rich marine ecosystems and the seasonal pastures of the tundra.
Sámi Lavvo
Historically, the lavvo represents the enduring spirit and nomadic heritage of the Sámi people, serving as a vital shelter adapted to the harsh northern elements. To explore the documented history of this traditional structure, you can read the official entry in the Store norske leksikon. Consequently, I captured this cultural landscape to document how this deep indigenous history lives in harmony with nature.
