Young Reindeer in the Sámi village Storbukt in Finnmark

The reindeer symbolizes life in Finnmark, especially in Sami`s culture. In the village of Stormark, located in the heart of Finnmark, reindeer herding has been an important part of Sami`s tradition and livelihood for centuries. Reindeer are a source of food and fur and a vital part of Sami’s lifestyle and identity. In this region, reindeer roam the open landscapes, migrating between winter and summer pastures in harmony with the changing seasons.

How is it that seabirds have no problem drinking seawater?

Seagulls can drink both fresh and salt water.

Several reptiles and sea birds have their own built-in “desalination plants” that enable them to drink seawater.
Most animals are unable to do this, but seagulls have a special pair of glands right above their eyes which is specifically designed to flush the salt from their systems through openings in the bill.

A majestic reindeer with its impressive antlers, captured in Seiland National Park, highlights the important connection between wildlife and the Arctic wilderness. The powerful antlers symbolize not only the strength of life in this harsh landscape but also the fragile balance that sustains it. In a world where nature faces increasing pressures, it is more important than ever to protect these habitats and the creatures that inhabit them. By supporting sustainable practices and embracing the beauty of nature, we can help ensure that future generations will continue to experience and appreciate the wonders of our planet’s wild places.
