The story and heritage behind Arctic Winter Sarnesfjorden III

Sarnesfjorden is a remote bay in Nordkapp, Finnmark, where the elements completely dominate the landscape.

This fine-art photograph captures the raw power of northern nature exactly as it is, with majestic, snow-covered mountain ranges plunging dramatically into the fjord on an icy winter day with a storm in the making. The unique, golden Arctic winter light hits the landscape, drawing the viewer into the untamed wilderness.
Sarnes carries a long history spanning 10,000 years, reaching back to the end of the last ice age [verified]. Archaeological excavations during the FATIMA project uncovered cist graves (hellekistegraver) and more than 500 historic artifacts [verified]. Census records show that Sarnes has been a family sanctuary through generations, with 31 permanent residents registered in 1875 [verified]. One of the oldest dated settlements in Finnmark is found here, where excavated animal bones from ancient hearths are approximately 10,300 years old. Sources, Tromsø Museum in the scientific journal Ottar (No. 212, 1996) and in Reflex 1993-2.

This piece belongs to a dedicated series of northern winter landscapes. Ultimately, to preserve the deep contrasts and dramatic details, I print this artwork exclusively on premium, acid-free Hahnemühle fine-art paper. This museum-quality paper guarantees exceptional longevity and a stunning matte finish. You can explore the historic background of this traditional manufacturer directly on Hahnemühle FineArt, ensuring your limited-edition print remains a striking focal point in modern homes.
